Happy Halloween!
Yay, we had trick-or-treaters! They were cute! We gave them candy! A good time was had by all. The day's been rather lacking in scares though. My plans for Silent Hill 2 fell through, and Castlevania isn't exactly much for horror. Fun game though. I also don't really have any horror movies; the closest I've got on me at the moment is American Psycho, what with my brother having spirited away my copy of Shaun of the Dead. So, I've been entertaining myself with an ongoing youtube mockumentary series I've been enjoying: Marble Hornets. It's quite Blair Witch and has its flaws, but I did actually find that it has its share of scares, and considering the no-string budget I'd say it's admirably done. It's nice to see horror that isn't just hack-and-slash generic haunted house/violently murdering teenagers. The whole thing is based around the Slender Man urban legend*. As one might expect from the name, he's a tall, thin man with disturbingly long limbs. He's commonly associated with the disappearances of children, but, as this story shows, they are not his exclusive victims. Enjoy! I quite liked it. *I know where it's from and how it got started. The curious can google, but I consider it kind of spoilery, so I won't say it here. | | Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 | | 11:27 pm |
For those of you who don't know, he's the writer/director for Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Spaced "...Wright, currently in town shooting the Toronto-set Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley).."I'm experiencing inexpressible glee here. ...Dampened slightly by the casting choices. Michael Cera for Pilgrim? Really? Really? Also, Superman as an evil ex is kind of amusing, but a little old for the part. Strange. Oh, oh, and while I'm on the subject, and I realize that this makes me sound like Pilgrim, and isn't that horrifying, but, calling it now: "Oh my god, that guy he fought in the second book to save high-school Kim is Gideon!" In spite of the completely different name. And skin tone. | | Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 | | 12:07 am |
Okay Google, I'll bite. What the hell is with all the UFO stuff? | | Friday, July 24th, 2009 | | 4:57 pm |
I wonder if this is from the same base as the last one of these that I answered.
Who sleeps in bed next to you?
Occasionally my sister's cat on the weekends. It refuses to let the fact that I'm currently using the bed to sleep in deter it from trying to take over the bed. Have you ever lied to a teacher to get out of a deadline? I don't think so What kind of books do you read? School books. What's your occupation? Student. What're really creepy? Yuppies. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction? I've finished Transformers: Animated, so now I don't know. What are you listening to right now? Rain. What food could you eat every day for weeks and not get sick of? Chocolate, probably. What colour of socks are you wearing today? Sandals What was the last thing you bought? Pepsi Find the nearest book by you, turn to page 42, find the second sentence on the page. What does it say? breeze \brez\ n : light wind ~ vb breezed; breezing : move fast -- breezy adj Do you want to learn another language? Sure. 4 things I SHOULD be doing right now instead of answering memes: cleaning room, making dinner, getting clothes together, reading What's something you'd like to say to someone right now? I really don't want to make supper. What are you looking forward to? Enh. | | Sunday, July 12th, 2009 | | 1:52 pm |
Now cracks a noble spark
Damnit, Transformers franchise! I watch all of two out of the hojillion-and-one series produced over the years, and you manage to kill my favourite character both times. And in Animated it was the only confirmed non-flashback Autobot death, for spark's sake. Couldn't it have been Sentinel instead? At least in Beast Wars it didn't feel so singled out (it was also way badass*, not that this death wasn't also heroic and self-sacrificing and all that jazz**). Oh, and if you're into Transformers at all, I do recommend Transformers: Animated as fun, lighthearted entertainment that swings suddenly into more serious and seriously awesome territory (heartbreak aside) by season three. And avoid that new movie. It's awful. *I hope that when my time comes, I too will be able to get in a Shakespeare quote or two. **Um, but not Jazz though. | | Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 | | 11:05 pm |
Have you an iThingy? Yes? Then get an awesome new game for $0.99: ThreadBound! It was made in part by a friend of mine; I beta tested the first few levels and can confirm that it is fun. But don't take my completely objective and unbiased word for it-- here's a review! And this is more information on the game itself plus the company that made it. I...can't seem to link to the game itself. I have no idea how the iStore works. There are 54 levels. It is less than a dollar. Go be an awesome stick insect! | | Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 | | 10:55 am |
The Daily Show: reducing the chances of me snapping and killing someone since April 30, 2009
Look, it's LHC-paranoia debunked in a less condescending and less outright mean-to-the-audience manner than I could ever manage. Also, everyone is doomed except for John, Walter, and Gordon, let's not forget. Watch this space in Septemberish, when I will no doubt lose my temper at the world and oh there will be ranting. Actually, it may be as soon as two weeks from now. Dan Brown is only lolarious right up until you read the online news and see a comment about how the LHC is dangerous because of the anti-matter it makes. Oy. Man, when are my parents getting here? If I can't get free comics, I at least want to get moving. | | 2:30 am |
Update: Today is now Free Comic Books Day and has been for several hours Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day! Alas, because I will be moving back home tomorrow, I will not be getting free comics. But this is generally a good deal! And according to some of the comic blogs, there's actually some decent stuff being offered. You know. Some. Some of them certainly look interesting, to say the least (a manga co-created by Stan Lee? Really?) Also, you have no idea how much I wish I could be at The Beguiling in Toronto tomorrow. So yeah. Local comic book stores. Free comics. Thor is going to be there, and probably Snake Eyes (wait, Hama is involved, so definitely Snake Eyes) and Harry Dresden and apparently Lincoln and Jesus are going to be fighting zombies (it would be cooler with TD Roosevelt in there, but so is anything) and holy crap do I ever want that DC kids comic sampler*. Plus these places usually also offer deals on other stuff. Go!Ooh, Sherlock Holmes by Moore Jr. Oh and my computer is officially out of space. But it's a worthwhile trade for three seasons' worth of Babylon 5. Ohhhh yes. And how does one know if one is graduated yet? *Please note that my passing mentions of these comic characters and scenarios are not a recommendation for their comics. Although I did hear the Dresden Files comics are solidly good. And the DC Kids thing really does look great. | | Thursday, April 30th, 2009 | | 10:47 pm |

Follow-up. Cuz I'm sure everyone's fascinated. And thus, like magic, a new chapter of Bokurano appears. I'm not sure whether to thank the manga gods or be extremely angry with them. At least volume nine of Y and seven of Ex Machina turned out less depressing than I had anticipated; apparently, BKV is saving all the heartbreak for the next ones. And there will be heartbreak. I'm willing to bet cash --and in a way, I guess I am-- that he's going to kill at least my favourite former-harbour-patrolman-turned-superher o-mayor bodyguard. Also, if anyone who hasn't seen the episode is a bit curious, here's a taste of the Mad Pierrot: Follow the link, wait for the whole thing to download, and skip to 5:46. Enjoy! Seen it now? Good. It's especially jarring because of how light-hearted the previews usually are. That's not really the most unsettling part of the episode. Nor is it the creepy setting. Nor the music, which I find gets quite eerie. It's not the image montage or that one robot. No, for me, it's those last few minutes (which only work if you've seen the rest of the episode). As someone else in the room commented, "I did not expect it to end that way". My expression fell somewhere between Spike's and D: I'm going to go focus on happier things now. Like mad-genius hackers and yorkies. | | Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 | | 12:49 pm |

Also, it's a toss-up whether Brown or Chuck Austen has a worse understanding of Catholicism, really.
Someone please clarify something for me since I'm not interested in reading the book myself: In Angels and Demons, does Brown honestly say that CERN is trying to re-produce the Horrendous Space Kablooie AKA Big Bang in a lab? Ha, and the LHC starts up again a month or so after the movie premieres. This is going to produce some hilarious results, and by hilarious, I mean absolutely infuriating. Yay! More anti-science paranoia fueled by misinformation posing as fact! Awesome. | | Saturday, February 7th, 2009 | | 2:07 pm |

Happy Groundhog Day!
In honour of the occasion, I'm watching Higurashi. Not that I really needed an excuse. On the one hand: I knew it! I fucking knew it!! On the other hand: Oh man, I just got played. How did I not figure this out? It's so simple! Goddamn, but I am a moron. | | Sunday, February 1st, 2009 | | 9:06 pm |
Haha, Oops.
Looks like Global has stopped showing this season's episodes of Heroes for free, including the season finale. I was considering actually watching it this weekend. Oh well, I saw about five minutes of it earlier, and I find myself having difficulty actually caring whether or not I ever see the rest of the episode. Also, if Tropes is to be believed, it looks like I can skip the entire next season and just read "Days of Future Past" for the same result. Speaking of television series I do care about though, I now have working subtitles to accompany season two of Higurashi. And I was planning on getting some work done this weekend. *sigh*. In one episode, I think Satoko figured out what was going on; I have been beaten by a ten-year-old. Oh well, I feel less stupid knowing that the collective powers of the internet couldn't solve the mysteries. |
